Court Appointed Special Advocates

"CASA is central to fulfilling society's most fundamental obligation by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child's right to be safe, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to learn and grow in the security of a loving family." CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

Scarlet Lawerance Akins Foundation

Scarlet Lawrence Akins was a member of the Epsilon Zeta chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. On August 4th, 2006, one day before her 28th birthday, Scarlet Lawrence Akins lost her brave battle against malignant melanoma. The Scarlet Lawrence Akins Foundation was established with the goal of raising public awareness of this potentially deadly cancer and contributing funds to help researchers find a cure for those diagnosed with this disease. They also work to help educate and warn others about the dangers of skin cancer.
